Coltech Marine is a Greek company that has been offering paints and varnishes for more than 30 years. It arrives on the French market through the distributors HDS and Sogeric. Among the products in its catalogue, we spotted the TransElast varnish with a particularly impressive result.
TransElast is a transparent polyurethane varnish. Compared to an acrylic varnish, it has a better ageing process (no surface whitening).
The watertightness of this product is also more important. However, TransElast is a breathable varnish. Indeed, it remains permeable to vapour. This means that there is no risk of bubbles when drying and no problems when applying it to wood that is not completely dry.
But the most impressive thing is the flexibility of this varnish. Even when applied in one very thick layer, once dry the varnish seems indestructible and above all can stretch as desired. This is important, because it means that once on the wood, it follows the evolution of the material without cracking. This varnish encapsulates the substrate.
Application can be done with a brush or roller, or even with a notched spatula. Indeed, this varnish is self-smoothing when dry. Thus with few coats, but each one thick enough, one can obtain a varnish with a great depth.
TransElast varnish is available in gloss or matt. It can be used on all types of wood, even teak on deck, but also on stainless steel to protect it from oxidation.
