Alternative in the wind turbine, a vertical axis model at ATMB

While vertical axis wind turbines only concerned small, low output models, ATMB, the leader in the field, is launching a model that produces up to 200 W. A wind turbine that has nothing to envy to the usual horizontal axis models.

Raphael Dinelli already believed in it during his 2008-09 Vendée Globe. Setting out from Les Sables-d'Olonne with a vertical-axis wind turbine, he completed the loop in 10 e position by partially charging its batteries with this model. ATMB, which is now a manufacturer of wind turbines (and no longer simply a distributor) offers this year a new model in its catalogue: ATMB 200.

Interesting performance

This vertical axis wind turbine has 5 fiberglass reinforced blades. Contrary to this type of small wind turbine which are only used for battery maintenance, this much larger model has a maximum power of 200 W (max 220 W). The advantage of these wind turbines is the early start of the load. The rotor starts as early as 2.5 knots of wind and the 200 W are reached at 23 knots of wind.

A complete regulator delivered as standard

The electronic governor supplied with the wind turbine automatically manages the speed of the wind turbine by braking it in case of overspeed. It is an electromagnetic brake that reverses the polarity and blocks the rotation in case of overspeed. This brake is also accessible manually via a stop switch on the regulator. The regulator can be adjusted according to the battery to be recharged. It manages the voltage sent to the battery according to its type (lead, gel, AGM...). An input for solar panels (200 W max.) is also available on the regulator.

A very quiet wind turbine

With its 80 cm diameter (for 50 cm high), this wind turbine remains quite imposing. It can be mounted on a mast on a deckhouse or on a hoop at the back of a boat. This model is designed for owners of motor boats or sailing boats who are looking for a silent and vibration-free model (the main disadvantages of a horizontal axis wind turbine). Indeed, the ATMB 200 wind turbine produces barely 5 dB at 5 m. A really ridiculous noise!

A connected product

Icing on the cake, this windmill's connected. From an Android application, a Bluetooth connected smartphone sends back the information displayed on the controller. This makes it easy to find out the current charge of the wind turbine at any time.
