Team New Zealand capsizes in the America's Cup

The New Zealand challenge capsized during a regatta against its opponent Land Rover BAR. An impressive accident that fortunately caused no injuries.

The Kiwi Emirates Team New Zealand Challenge has rolled over at high speed, shortly after the start of his heat against the English team. The bow sank into the water and the boat went into the water, its stern floats in the air. Three crewmembers were thrown into the water while the others were left hanging in the cockpits.

The opposing team - Land Rover Bar - immediately slowed down and the skipper, Ben Ainslie ordered his chase boat (auxiliary boat) to help the kiwis.

Moments later, Emirates Team New Zealand reported live to the race director, "All the crew have been accounted for - we're just working to get the boat back in order." A statement that brought a sigh of relief to the America's Cup community and sailing fans around the world.

After staying a few minutes with the stern floats out of the water, the boat then fell back to the side, allowing her crew to right her.

The consequences for the Louis Vuitton America's Cup qualifiers are not yet clear. The race has been awarded to Land Rover BAR. However, Kiwi Peter Burling still leads 3-1 over Land Rover BAR of Ainslie.

The races should continue this Wednesday, but the weather conditions should still be very strong. This will give the Kiwis an extra day to repair their damaged boat if the wind is too strong for racing.
