The first French festival reserved for adventures at sea

After Montagne en Scène - which has been a hit since 2013, the concept is now being extended to water sports. The first edition of the Offshore Film Festival will take place in June 2017 in 6 major French cities to introduce city dwellers to the world of the sea through a film evening dedicated to water sports.

An idea inspired by the mountains

In 2013, the Montagne en Scène festival was born, an event based on films about the mountains. The idea was to present a selection of films combining sports and extraordinary adventures. With now two editions per year (one in summer and one in winter) and an exhibition in 40 European cities (France, Switzerland, Belgium, United Kingdom, Luxembourg), the organisation is now launching itself into the world of the sea, after having had several requests to launch a similar event on water sports. This is how the 1 re edition of the Offshore in June 2017, as the organizers realized that there was a strong potential linked to the quality of films on the sea and the absence of a travelling festival.

Bringing the world of the sea to the city

The concept of the Offshore Film is to bring the sea back to the city, and mainly in the big cities of France. " Don't forget that the people who go to the sea are also city dwellers, who come to share a pleasant moment with their friends." details Charlotte, who is part of the Festival's organization.

The idea is to find a variety of films that are not about a particular sport, but about adventures that can inspire people. With a panel of films covering all water activities, the Offshore's goal is to bring practitioners and novices to discover this universe. "People come here to escape, to think about something else, to plan their next adventures... We want to introduce them to certain worlds, certain adventures and make them want to program their own adventures." explains Charlotte.

The Offshore will take place in June, in 6 different cities with a varied program to bring together a large audience.

Rennes June 13, 2017
Nantes June 14, 2017
Bordeaux June 15, 2017
Paris 20 June 2017
Lyon June 22, 2017
Marseille June 23, 2017

A variety of films in theme and format

The organization chooses films (usually between 4 and 6 films) of a rather varied length. For this first edition, the organisation has gone out to meet filmmakers, amateurs or even major production companies, or has put itself in contact with directors or sportsmen and women. The idea is that subsequently, people or companies who wish to do so can submit their films directly via the website.

" Usually, the evening starts with a very short film allowing the spectator to enter the evening, it continues with films lasting between ten and thirty minutes and ends with the feature film " explains Charlotte.

People take their seats for a full evening with a presentation of the concept by one of the team members. The idea is also to be able to invite athletes or directors even though this is not always possible when the programming is international. "We want the audience to interact with the personalities present so we can create a real exchange." details Charlotte.
