Simrad AP48, the autopilot designed for motor boats

Simrad introduces its new dedicated autopilot for powerboats. It incorporates features that will be of use to fishermen or divers.

Simrad launches a new autopilot unit. The AP48 is distinguished by a larger housing with a 4.1 inch diagonal (10.25 cm) colour display. The glass is glued to the liquid crystal to provide a flush finish and above all readability up to 170° angle with the display.

An ergonomic keyboard

This unit has the usual heading adjustment buttons (±1° and ±10°) but also a rotary knob to go directly to the right heading in a more intuitive way. There are also dedicated shortcut keys and other extended control buttons. This keyboard is waterproof allowing work even with wet or gloved hands.

Functions adapted to the motorboat

Suitable for fishing or diving, this pilot has some special functions. Thus the boater will be able to program the manoeuvre he wants (spirals, zigzag or any other useful manoeuvre). The pilot, by simply pressing the pre-programmed button, reproduces this figure.

Control according to the sensor lines

Also note the possibility of connecting the driver with a compatible sounder. In this case, the pilot can be asked to follow a sounding line, keeping a constant depth under the boat at all times. This avoids programming complex routes with multiple waypoints on a chart that is not always accurate.

Clear menus

The AP48 driver retains the intuitive interface discovered on the AP44 with easy access to menus and settings. The pilot start-up procedure has been simplified to include dockside configuration and sea trials. The AP48 adjusts automatically to ensure optimum autopilot performance.
