The Nodus fabric release carabiner finally available

Nodus T-smile

Nodus, a French company that manufactures in France, invented and markets the first textile releasable carabiner. It is available to the general public.

The Nodus adventure continues. We presented you a preview of their new releasable carabiner ( see the video of the demonstration ), a global innovation that does not yet have competition.

This textile carabiner is now marketed in 3 sizes under the name T-smile. It can be installed in place of a metal carabiner: on a halyard, a sheet, a barber..

It offers several major interests:

  • The weight. For the same resistance, it is much lighter than its stainless steel counterpart.
  • The resistance. For the same weight, it is much stronger than a stainless steel carabiner.
  • The drop. The ease of releasing it under load (even heavy) is of interest to sailors.

The handling of this carabiner is innovative. A "safety sleeve" with its polyester textile sheath and soft moulded end keeps the T-smile in the closed position. Once the safety sleeve is open, simply tilt the T-smile by pulling on the release line. Constructed from Dyneema SK78, this carabiner offers remarkable breaking loads and minimum elongation (less than 1%).

While this carabiner is available for the general public as a loop that attaches to the end of the sheets, it is also available for riggers and sailors with a Dyneema termination for splicing onto a rope.
