Wind in Alban Dmerlu's sails

Alban Dmerlu Wind in the sails

How do the inhabitants of Les Sables-d'Olonne experience the Vendée Globe? That rush before departure and those arrivals three months later? In a comic strip, Polpino presents his vision of things.

And if to talk about the Vendée Globe, we forgot the riders to talk about the public who stay on land. This is the opposite foot chosen by Polpino, the author of the comic strip"Du vent dans les voiles". He stages his main character, Alban Dmerlu, a retired fisherman from Les Sables-d'Olonne. He is accompanied by his wife Odette and his lifelong companion, Roland Goustine.

Alban Dmerlu Du vent dans les voiles

You will have understood, this joyful troupe is not serious. The gags which follow page after page, make us relive the atmosphere of the village of departure in Les Sables seen by the inhabitants. We find ourselves more often at the bistro than on the quays, but we have the chance to meet in these pages Jean-Luc Van Den Heede or Arnaud Boissières (both residents of Les Sables).

Alban Dmerlu Du vent dans les voiles

All these sketches feel the experience. The author Paul Pineau dit Polpino was born in Les Sables. He already used his main character in a first volume. The deliberately caricatured rendering passes well and the work will please both adults and children. An offbeat comic strip that treats the Vendée Globe from a new angle.
