European Yacht of the Year 2017: the 5 yachts in the Performance Cruiser category

J 112 / E of the site J Composites

Five sailboats are nominated in the Performance Cruiser category, i.e. boats designed for sustained navigation .

Dehler 34

The Dehler 34 is an 11 m long cruiser that plays the performance card. It has the same layout that has worked so well since the 1980s, namely an aft cabin, a bathroom and a cabin in the forward triangle. On deck, the large cockpit is open to the rear and equipped with two steering wheels. It can be fitted out in a regatta or race version as an option for fast sailing.

Grand Soleil 58

The Grand Soleil 58 (17.50 m) is the Italian shipyard's comfortable flagship that plays the luxury card. All maneuvering is returned to the rear of the cockpit, freeing up the forward area for two large seating areas - sunbathing. The flush deck hatches and the recessed mainsail track allow for optimal circulation on deck. The saloon is large with a galley, either L-shaped on the port side of the companionway or forward along the mast bulkhead. The owner's cabin forward of the mast is offered in two configurations. To maintain the boat's performance, the shipyard opted for a composite construction.

J 112/E

The J/112 E is the latest addition to the "E" series of multi-purpose racing-cruising yachts from J Composites. This 36-foot boat, ideal for cruising as well as for a small crew, is built to withstand rough weather conditions. It is equipped with two spacious cabins, one forward and one aft, and an ergonomic and comfortable cockpit. The interior design is in keeping with the "E" line with natural light at the center of the layout. The J/112 E is an excellent upwind boat. Its V-shaped bow offers greater directional stability and better wave handling.

Ofcet 32

The Ofcet 32 is a racing-cruising yacht (10.30 m) designed by Marc Lombard for IRC racing and fast cruising. It has the same lines as the Mini, with a round and voluminous inverted bow and 2 chines. If this boat is primarily designed for double-handed or crewed racing, modular elements will allow to consider cruising.

Pogo 36

The Pogo 36 (10.86 m) is a high-performance cruising yacht with a more modern hull with chines and a beam slightly wider by 10 cm. The shipyard offers a fixed keel (2.10 m draft) or a pivoting keel. It is in this configuration that the boat will be the most efficient, as it allows to lower the ballast to 2.80 m under the waterline. This cruising boat with 2 or 3 cabins, is built in sandwich, with very summary arrangements and the possibility of installing a carbon mast. All these elements show the will of the shipyard to play the speed card.
