What boats to see at the Brest 2016 Maritime Festival?

Brest Maritime

Every day, crews from around the world register to participate in the Brest 2016 Maritime Holidays. They will be more than a thousand, parading through Brest. But so that visitors can find their way around, they have been divided into eleven categories.

To make it easier for crews and visitors to find their way around, the Brest Nautical Events team has divided all the boats into categories. There are eleven categories, from the big oceans to small traditional boats, not forgetting the ancient sailboats from long traditions around the work of the sea.

Yawls and sails oar

It is a very varied and extremely lively flotilla with its light and twirling boats that come from all over the world.

Traditional canoes

A ballet for lovers of traditional boats, which are declined according to the times and customs of each country.

Former workboats

This fleet gathers sailboats from 8 to 15 meters which were formerly dedicated to maritime labour: fishing, demarcation, transport..., they are now pampered by their owners and bear witness to long maritime traditions.

Former coastal sailing and deep-sea fishing vessels

These sailing ships of 18 to 30 meters were dedicated to the transport and routing of goods. Each now has its own history, carried by centuries of navigation and generations of sailors from the four corners of the globe.

Tall ships of 30 metres and more

Huge sailing ships from all over the world that sail the oceans of the globe with majesty. Impressive stars with oversized dimensions!

Historical replicas

Real jewels whose construction defies time, these historical restitutions reproduced with passion and fidelity make us relive the great maritime moments of human history.

Small classic pleasure, from 5 to 7 meters

Very often built by shipyards, these small cruisers or"day-boats" will punctuate the Holidays on the water, a formidable playground for these"little ones" who will manoeuvre sails deployed, alongside the"big ones" of the Holiday.

Great classic yacht, 8 meters and more

Raced and powerful hulls, sharp sails, the sailing boats of the great classic yacht always offer us a bewitching nautical spectacle!

Pleasure of the 50's - 60's

It was in the 1950s that pleasure boating was democratised and made accessible to all budgets, thanks in particular to the popular series by naval architect Jean-Jacques Herbulot. Caravelle, Vaurien, Mousquetaire... A new way of sailing open to everyone!

Power Boating

Powered by sometimes surprising engines, old stars, Chris-Crafts, Runabouts and all historic motorboats are welcome alongside classic yachts.

Racing yachts

The public will be able to discover legendary performance yachts, which also testify to the rapid evolution of the racing yacht. From the cutting-edge trimaran to the boats whose innovative curves at the beginning are now part of the heritage, it's a real call to challenges and nautical competition.

And also

The military vessels of the French Navy and the flagship of the grey boats of Brest, the Abeille Bourbon. Tugs, customs, SNSM, inshore and offshore fishing vessels.

Science boats will be part of the celebration, such as the Thalassa de l'Ifremer (French Research Institute for the Exploitation of the Sea), the Europa (Dutch ship that carries out scientific missions), and other research units that explore the mysteries of the deep blue.
