Allures 45.9, the keel for the dinghy!

You can no longer say: "Allures are integral drifting sailing yachts with an aluminium shaped hull". Indeed, the future Allures 45.9, an evolution of the Allures 45, comes with a lifting keel version. A major change for this French construction site.

For 14 years, the Allures yachting yard in Cherbourg has become a reference for the aluminium long-distance sailing boat. Relying on an integral dinghy hull with the daggerboard fully retractable to make grounding possible, this yard has opted since the beginning for a polyester deck to reduce weight and introduce beautiful curved lines into the deckhouse and cockpit.

A major innovation for the site, for the first time, Allures will offer a version with a lifting keel. The dinghy version will always exist but a lifting keel will also be in the catalogue. The latter will make it possible to do without the 2 tonnes of ballast in the bottom. Thus lightened, but with the same righting torque and sail area as its dinghy cousin, the lifting keel model should improve performance. This is a gain to the detriment of the grounding since the lifting keel does not retract entirely into the hull.

Launched 7 years ago, the Allures 45 was the spearhead of the project. By its size it remains manoeuvrable by a torque and offers enough volume to be equipped with all the elements of desired comfort (generator, air conditioning, washing machine...).

The Allures 49.9, which should be launched at the end of 2016 (presentation at the Dusseldorf Motor Show in January 2017), takes up the main lines of its predecessor. The 70 cm longer hull has been redesigned to accommodate the lifting keel. On deck, a lot of work has been done on ergonomics and ease of manoeuvring with a reduced crew. This model summarises the experience acquired by the site, integrating the feedback - now numerous - from Allures owners.

Note the jib winches that come back to the centre of the cockpit to secure the crew and to work in a good position for the back. The piano remains, classically installed on either side of the descent. The latter is designed to receive a top that is often acclaimed for long cruises.

Nothing new in terms of layout since the 45 was already very successful in this field. The map table is kept with a high seat facing each other to keep a good view of the outside and to share the pleasure of driving. The forward cabin has a double bed that splits into 2 single beds if necessary.

On the technical side, the forward hold remains bulky (for sails) and serves as a crash-box for safety. At the rear the technical room is accessible from the cockpit as well as from the inside. Note the numerous storage spaces and the large size of the tanks.
