The Titanic II, from dream to reality

The Titanic, a mythical cruise ship with an unhappy fate could come back to life, the envy of Australian billionaire Clive Palmer.

Australian businessman and billionaire Clive Palmer announced in 2012 that he and his transport company Blue Star Line would recreate the Titanic. But the project was delayed due to financial problems. Indeed, the project requires an investment of 500 million euros.

The Titanic II will be built in honour of the 100 e anniversary of the launch and premature sinking of the liner. In April of the same year, Clive Palmer commissioned the Chinese shipyard CSC Jinling to coordinate and build the Titanic II. In 2013, Deltamarin became a partner of the transport company to take care of the pre-construction work.

And to date, the project has not been abandoned since the billionaire hopes to launch his liner in 2018. As luxurious as its namesake, the Titanic II will have all the modern comforts associated with the technology of the 21 e century and the latest navigation and safety systems.

The Titanic II will be 270 m long and 53 m high and will be able to accommodate 2435 passengers and 900 crew members on board. On board, the layout will be identical to that of the 20 e century. There is a smoking room for men only, a Parisian café, first class rooms in oak, mahogany and lemon wood, a swimming pool, a gym, Turkish baths and the grand staircase, all fitted out in 1900.

The Titanic II will be launched in 2018 in China, but will not link Southampton to New York, unlike its predecessor. The inaugural crossing will link Jiangsu, China to Dubai, United Arab Emirates. But the dream of sailing on the Titanic II will not be accessible to everyone, as a first-class room could cost 800,000 euros!
