Drakkar 24 by Dufour, a day boat that contrasts with the range

Dufour told us to work on an atypical day boat sailing project that should prove to be fun. Discretion.

Dufour returns to his origins. While currently the smallest boat in the range is the Dufour 310 (9.67 m), this yard will launch the Drakkar 24 to the next one Grand Pavois in La Rochelle in September 2015. To mark the return to its roots - the first boat designed and built in 1964 by Michel Dufour was the Sylphe (6.54 m) - the Dufour shipyard named the future Drakkar project. The same one that has formed the brand's logo since its inception.

A simple sailboat, day boat or cruise school?

The Drakkar 24 is a small sailboat (7.00 m) designed by Umberto Felci's team for learning to sail. But it can also be used as a day boat for day trips. Originally designed in 2012 for an Italian sailing school (the equivalent of our Glénans), this sailboat was not produced in series. It is a keelboat with a lifting keel (300 kg of ballast) and transportable. To accommodate a large crew, benches surround the cockpit. In the forward point, there is no cabin but just a shelter for storing the equipment for the day.

The design of the hull is modern with a step that runs from the transom to the bow. Note the pole integrated in the foredeck to install gennakers or other downwind sails. Largely canvas and lightweight, this little toy should be able to make powder speak for sports use.

Let's hope that this sailboat will meet its customers and let's note the effort of the Dufour shipyard in this difficult economic climate, to get out of the beaten track with the classic cruisers and try it in a niche.
