Samantha Davies, the charm of the Volvo Ocean Race

If I tell you Samantha Davies, will you answer me? The skipper of Team SCA, crew of the Volvo Ocean Race and winner of the 8th stage in Lorient. But who is this sailor of English origin?

Samantha Davies was born on 23 August 1974 in Portsmouth, United Kingdom. From an early age, she discovered the sea. As she says, she was born with the sea in her veins, which she loves just like the ocean, sailing and boats. "His maternal grandfather building boats when his paternal grandfather was a submariner in the Royal Navy during the Second World War." reports the PurePeople site. All her childhood, she spent it at sea, with her parents, on the family boat, sailing near the Breton coast. As she grew up, she took swimming lessons and competed. Besides, she is very good at class, especially in math and everything related to numbers. She is also studying engineering, attracted by technical things. She became the mother of a little Ruben in September 2011, lives in Trégunc, Finistère and sails within the Pôle Finistère Course au Large, Port-La-Forêt.

In 2007, she embarked on the Transat Jacques Vabres, in duet with Jeanne Grégoire. Then in 2008-2009, she set off on a solo round the world race in the Vendée Globe. Pro de la com', she will be known for her photos and videos and will win the 4 e place. A great performance for the first time. In 2012, she is the only woman to start the Vendée Globe, but will be forced to retire during the first week of the race, following a dismasting.

She became a mother in September 2011 and is now the head of the 100% female team of the Volvo Ocean Race . Although this is not the first time she has sailed with an all-women team, it is the first time she has led it. The Volvo Ocean Race, "it's a child's dream! In France, the mythical races are solo races like the Vendée Globe or the Route du Rhum. In the Anglo-Saxon countries, it is the Volvo Ocean Race. When I was a kid, I used up my parents' video tapes from watching them over and over again she reports in Paris Match.

To sail around the world for nine months, Sam received, like all his teammates, a colossal training, which began in February 2013. On the program: cardio, weight training, navigation 6 days a week and nutrition. By signing this victory in Lorient, Samantha Davies and the entire SCA team proved that women in competition can do as well as men!
