Today, the national society for the heritage of lighthouses and beacons operates in free wheel. It does not receive subsidies from any state institution and needs patrons and sponsors to restore one of the French cultural heritages. Explanations from the president of the national society for the heritage of lighthouses and beacons.

Marc Pointud, president of the national society for the heritage of lighthouses and beacons, will leave in October and November stay 60 days in the lighthouse of Tévennec. This project is called "Light on Tévennec" is both a personal initiative, as you could discover in our interview with Marc Pointud, president of the national society for the heritage of lighthouses and beacons, but also a media operation to alert on the future of lighthouses and beacons, French cultural heritage.

So why the media coverage?

This is an extraordinary and unique operation. No one has stayed on the lighthouse for 105 years and no one has stayed on the lighthouses at sea for 25 years. The last ones to do it were the lighthouse keepers, but that was their job. I don't do it. I do it because it interests me, but also because it allows me to highlight the rescue of the lighthouse heritage at sea. The aim of this media coverage is also to find patrons and sponsors on the operation, because we have no help from the state, regions or institutions for the restoration.

The association has been trying to preserve the lighthouse heritage for 12 years now. The State has given us the authorization to go on Tévennec. By saving Tévennec, we will have the authorization to save another lighthouse. Tévennec is a starting base, a test laboratory. It is a difficult and heavy project, we have several years to do it. The State took several years to build it, 17 years for the ArMen, so imagine us, with our means. That's why we need a sponsor.

To finance Tévennec it is necessary 300 000 euros approximately, but it is a gift which can be defiscalised since it is retained of general interest. The company can withdraw 60% of the amount donated. But it is not only a question of money. We want the work to be done. If they offer to do some of the work for free, or to redo the roof, that's fine! I just wish that Tévennec would be restored.
