STX unveils a new corvette concept

During the Euronaval exhibition, which brings together the players in naval defence, security and maritime safety, STX France unveiled a new corvette concept.

STX France unveiled a new corvette concept at the Euronaval exhibition, which runs from 27 to 31 October. Called DEFENDSEAS, this boat is the result of a research and development program launched in 2013. It integrates a large number of technological bricks into a compact and high-performance ship architecture for greater operational efficiency. STX has implemented a key element in this concept which is a helicopter storage hangar on the lower level of the ship, served by an elevator system, freeing up space in the superstructure. This hangar is integrated into a large modular area of 500 m2 located at the rear and reconfigurable according to the missions. It can store heavy commando boats, 20-foot containers, and light military vehicles. The launching of RIBs (semi-rigid boats) is ensured by a stern ramp or two plating doors. A single overhead crane with multiple functions allows both launching boats and loading containers directly from a dock. The superstructures topped by a panoramic walkway with integrated Avia PC house the living and operational rooms and the storage of an aerial drone. Finally, the DEFENDSEAS is designed to integrate a set of weapons and important sensors that give it all the qualities of a combat ship.
