TOWT, a new solution for the transport of goods under sail

To adapt to the energy challenges of the 21st century, TOWT - TransOceanic Wind Tranport, is launching a concept of transporting goods by sailing boat. New departure on June 19 in Brittany.

To offer a sustainable and environmentally friendly alternative

TOWT âeuros Sailing transport proposes a drastic solution to reduce polluting emissions: the transport of goods by sail. This international project is in line with the objectives set by the Kyoto Treaty and Europe 2020 and promotes a clean transport label. By transporting goods on sailboats, the journey is accomplished without oil and therefore without pollution. TOWT âeuros Sailing transport has the ambition to develop its fleet and to build the Eco-sailboats of tomorrow. A new start on board the "Notre Dame de Rumengol

From June 19 to July 13, the "Our Lady of Rumengol the largest traditional cargo boat in France will make deliveries around Brittany. It is almost 700 miles (1,126 kms) that the sailboat will travel with fifteen scheduled stops and 150 references of Breton products delivered to distribution partners from Vendée to Trégor. To continue this ecological delivery, electric vans will make the last deliveries. The program includes the cities of Brest, Camaret and Audierne, Concarneau lorient, Belle-Île, Yeu, Pornic, Noirmoutier, Nantes, Le Crouesty, Lorient, Concarneau, Roscoff, Morlaix, Aber Wrac'h, Plougastel and Landernau.

It will be possible to board the ship to live the experience alongside the captain and the crew, for one or more stopovers, and to share the life of a transport sailing ship.

A "sustainable" delivery

This cabotage transport will reduce the carbon impact of a bottle delivered in Finistère by 5. In all, this trip will save one to two tons of CO2 if weather conditions permit. Moreover, all the products delivered will be certified by the label "Product transported by sail in respect of the environment" which will confirm that the journey was made under sail. Each label has a number that refers to a route sheet to inform consumers.
