Simena is not just a large sailing yacht to admire at anchor. The first images released by ARES Yachts show a 62-meter ketch actually underway off the coast of Saint-Tropez, with sails set, heeling, and sailing at a measured pace. For both recreational sailors and yachting professionals, this first glimpse offers a better understanding of the yacht?s capabilities, ranging from offshore cruising to Mediterranean stopovers and its planned appearance at the 2026 Monaco Yacht Show.
A 62-meter ketch that actually sails under sail
During the photo shoot off the coast of Saint-Tropez, Simena was sailing at speeds between 8.5 and 9.5 knots in 13- to 16-knot winds. This speed is consistent with her sail plan and her long-distance sailing program.
The ketch rig features a 59-meter mainmast and a 48-meter mizzenmast. The sail plan includes a 470 m² mainsail, a 249 m² mizzen sail, a 596 m² genoa, and a 356 m² staysail, all supplied by Doyle Sails.
Sea trials also showed that the boat could reach 16 knots under sail, with 20-knot winds and a heading of 100 degrees. This figure provides an interesting indication of the boat?s potential when sailing on a reaching course, although the reality of a cruise always depends on sea conditions, sail trim, and the desired level of comfort on board.
A first season that already feels like a real cruise
Simena has already traveled about 3,250 nautical miles in 2026. The boat has visited Monaco, Genoa, Palma de Mallorca, Saint-Tropez, and Imperia.
The start of the season included several long voyages, including a nonstop 1,200-nautical-mile delivery run from Fethiye to Monaco. The ketch also completed a crossing of approximately 400 nautical miles between the Strait of Messina and Cape Corsica, followed by an offshore leg of about 380 nautical miles between Kythira and the Strait of Messina.
These ranges speak louder than any spec sheet. They place Simena in the category of large yachts designed for cruising, not just for moving from one port to another between anchorages. And in the Mediterranean, where winds can sometimes be unpredictable, this ability to alternate between sailing and motor power counts for a lot.
A hybrid powertrain designed for long distances
Simena's hybrid system allows for electric propulsion powered by a generator at approximately 8 knots. The calculated range is approximately 6,000 nautical miles in this configuration.
The MAN diesel engine, for its part, is rated for a maximum speed of 14 knots and an operational range of 4,000 nautical miles at 11 knots. For a 62-meter yacht, these specifications clearly target long-distance voyages and cruises with few technical stopover requirements.
Simena also holds a 4-star SEA Index rating?the highest level?developed by the Yacht Club de Monaco and UBS Group, and verified by Lloyd's Register. The yacht has also received two nominations for the La Belle Classe Superyachts Explorer Awards. These are noteworthy achievements, even though a yacht?s true environmental impact depends on its usage, engine hours, and maintenance.
A classic silhouette, but with the dimensions of a superyacht
The exterior design and naval architecture were created by Taka Yacht Design, based in Istanbul. The interior was designed by Design Unlimited.
Simena draws on classic design elements, featuring a clipper bow and decks made of teak and varnished sipo mahogany. Yet its proportions are those of a contemporary superyacht. The boat ranks among the 25 longest sailing superyachts in the world.
On board, the layout accommodates up to 12 guests in six cabins. The owner?s suite spans the entire width of the bow. The outdoor spaces include a cockpit with a table seating 14 people, a 6 m² retractable swim platform, and a recessed flybridge that blends more seamlessly into the yacht?s overall profile.
A Mediterranean program under close scrutiny
Simena is currently sailing in the south of France. Her summer 2026 itinerary includes the French Riviera, a possible stop in Portofino, and northern Sardinia during the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup, September 6?12, 2026.
The boat is then scheduled to sail to Monaco ahead of the Monaco Yacht Show, set for September 23?26, 2026. It is listed among the large yachts on display there.
Simena is listed for sale by Northrop & Johnson. For a boater, the boat?s appeal lies primarily in its balance between classic styling, generous rigging, and seafaring capabilities. It?s no pocket-sized sailboat?far from it?but its first voyages show that this yacht has already moved beyond its role as mere dock decoration.
