The Odyssée ULTIM will not be held in Antibes in the spring of 2026. Cap Med and the ULTIM Class have decided to postpone the event, scheduled from April 29 to May 10, 2026. A decision which raises questions, and which postpones the first race sailing of the new Gitana 18.

The Mediterranean will have to wait a little longer to see the ULTIM trimarans battle it out off Antibes. Scheduled to take place from April 29 to May 10, 2026, the Odyssée ULTIM has been postponed by its organizer Cap Med, in agreement with the ULTIM Class.

An ambitious format for ULTIM trimarans in the Mediterranean

The Odyssée ULTIM aimed to set up a giant trimaran race in the Mediterranean, but the second edition has just been cancelled.

Cap Med states that the conditions required to guarantee the expected sporting and organizational level are not in place. Patrick Gilliot, General Secretary of Cap Med, explains:
"We don't have the necessary guarantees to ensure the spectacle, sporting intensity and quality of event that the Odyssée ULTIM, Antibes and the Côte d'Azur deserve. "

A logistical and financial challenge for a new offshore event

Creating a new ocean race isn't just a matter of plotting a course. It means bringing together public and private partners, securing a budget, structuring a race management team, and putting in place the maritime safety and communication resources needed to meet expectations.

Probably postponed for lack of funding, the event was now in its second year. But it's better to postpone than to offer an event that falls short of the technical and sporting standards of the class.
