GME MT606G EPIRB: a compact beacon distributed by Navicom

The MT606G is a distress beacon designed for yachtsmen and professionals. Compact, lightweight and compliant with international standards, it enables simultaneous alerting on several emergency channels. This model is also available in an automatic version under the reference MT606FG.

The MT606G is based on a multi-channel system designed to optimize detection in emergency situations. It transmits a main signal at 406 MHz, intended for the Cospas-Sarsat satellite network, ensuring worldwide coverage for warning purposes. A second signal at 121.5 MHz provides final guidance for short-range rescue resources.

This beacon also incorporates an AIS MOB function, enabling nearby vessels equipped with an AIS receiver to receive an instant alert. This system is particularly useful in densely populated areas, or in the event of damage with no possibility of communication.

GNSS satellite positioning with GPS and Galileo

The MT606G beacon is equipped with a GNSS module that combines the GPS and Galileo networks. This dual compatibility enables rapid acquisition and improved accuracy of the position of the vessel or person in distress.

Position data is transmitted at regular intervals to the emergency services via the 406 MHz signal. This coupling ensures rapid identification of the intervention zone and reduces response times for SAR teams.

Enhanced visual signage for reduced visibility conditions

The beacon is equipped with a high-intensity LED strobe light, to ensure effective tracking even in poor visibility conditions. This light signal is complemented by an infrared emission, detectable with night vision equipment.

These visual devices make it easier to locate the beacon at night, in heavy seas or in areas where rescue teams use binoculars or thermal imaging cameras.

Simple installation, quick manual activation

The MT606G is supplied with a quick-release wall bracket. This allows the beacon to be mounted inside the boat, in an area easily accessible by the crew. In the event of a critical situation, the user can manually release and activate the beacon in a matter of seconds.

Weighing just 695 grams (including bracket), it is particularly well-suited to coastal or mid-shore vessels. However, this mode of activation requires human intervention, a choice which depends on the operational capacity of the crew on board.

Certification, autonomy and regulatory obligations

In compliance with Cospas-Sarsat requirements, the MT606G complies with SOLAS, GMDSS and IEC 61097-2 standards. It is certified for international maritime use. In France, its use requires registration with ANFR, with MMSI coding associated with the vessel.

The beacon incorporates a lithium battery guaranteeing 48 hours of continuous emission. The battery life is estimated at 10 years, and must be replaced at an approved center.

Automatic version available: MT606FG

For offshore vessels or those subject to stricter regulatory constraints, the manufacturer also offers an automatic version of this beacon, designated MT606FG. This incorporates a hydrostatic trigger and an external box designed for automatic arming in the event of immersion.
