A faithful witness to nautical epics
For generations of listeners and sailing enthusiasts, Pierre-Louis Castelli's name remains inseparable from the great hours of ocean racing. As a journalist at France Inter, for over three decades he was the voice that relayed the emotions, exploits and dramas of solo sailors. From the very first editions of the Vendée Globe, the Route du Rhum and the Solitaire du Figaro, he embodied the precious link between skippers and the general public. At sea, his voice transmitted messages of encouragement; ashore, it conveyed the intensity of the race.
A respected figure in marine journalism
In the studios and on the pontoons, his professionalism and human warmth left their mark on all those who crossed his path. The testimonies of his colleagues and friends all speak of his rare ability to listen, understand and tell the story without artifice, with modesty and accuracy. He had the ability to capture the essence of a look, a sailor's word, the sound of the sea, and transform it into a living story. His death leaves a huge void in the nautical media landscape.
