A name in tribute to the Supermarine Spitfire
The Spitfire, a new 50.55 m superyacht concept, has just been unveiled by Ares Yachts. Ares Yachts is a new superyacht brand, unveiled at the Monaco Yacht Show 2023. The shipyard, founded in 2006, has already forged a solid reputation for its military and commercial vessels, and is now looking to expand into luxury yachting.
This model owes its name to the iconic Supermarine Spitfire aircraft. This transoceanic yacht boasts a modern design with clean lines and minimal height. The hull design by Lateral Naval Architects was inspired by the fast-moving offshore hull of its surveillance vessel, the Ares Bold 150. Built in composite, this new model is expected to cruise stably at a maximum speed of 22 knots, with a cruising range of 2,200 miles, extendable to 3,500 miles with an additional tank.
Discreet, elegant lines
Bannenberg & Rowell is responsible for the interior and exterior styling, to ensure continuity of vision between the two spaces. The grey superstructure is rather discreet, largely marked by long, dark windows. The bow is wide and rounded, with a vertical stem. Cut-out bulwarks lead to a low, open-air stern.
This spacious beach club features fold-down decks and a platform for easy access to the water. The transom houses furniture and storage for toys.
This space, accessible via an upward-opening door on the rear platform, offers two versatile layout options. You can choose between a luxurious salon, a cinema or a gym. Four large deck hatches provide plenty of interior light. Once the tenders are in the water, you can enjoy even more outdoor space.
Flexible interior design
Flexibility is the key to interior design. The various living areas can be linked or separated at will using sliding glass walls and doors. On the main deck, for example, the outdoor dining area and saloon have floor-to-ceiling glass walls that can be easily slid to create a gigantic indoor-outdoor space. The same applies to the upper deck saloon, where doors and an opening roof allow indoor sofas to become part of the outdoor bar, grill and lounger area.
A sea-facing owner's suite
The night side is carefully designed, with a full-width owner's suite at the front of the main deck. The bed affords panoramic views of around 270°. There is direct access to the private forward cockpit, with spa and its own open-air cinema. Retractable side screens and glass bulwark sections provide privacy. Four guest cabins with large bathrooms and storage space are located on the lower deck.
Hybrid electric propulsion
Spitfire is equipped with a diesel-electric hybrid propulsion system offering a range of flexible power options. With the largest battery bank and two 290 kW electric motors, the yacht can sail solely electrically for up to 1 hour. It can also enjoy a night without a generator while running all the household equipment. An additional battery pack extends this silent operation by 10 hours.
