The operation of the Saint-Brieuc wind farm, the second of its kind on the Atlantic coast after Saint-Nazaire, has led to the introduction of new maritime regulations. From July 1, 2024, navigation around the wind farm will once again be permitted under strict conditions, to guarantee safety and environmental protection.
New navigation regulations
The decree signed by Vice-Admiral Jean-François Quérat establishes a restricted zone where navigation is limited to vessels of less than 25 meters. Speed is restricted to 12 knots, and the use of an AIS system is mandatory depending on weather conditions. However, it is forbidden to navigate within a 50-meter radius of each wind turbine and a 200-meter radius of the electrical substation.

Additional bans
All forms of anchoring are prohibited in the park zone. Underwater activities and navigation using towed or aerotracted devices are also prohibited. These measures are designed to avoid any risk of incident and to protect the local marine fauna.
Impact on professional fishing
A complementary decree on the provisions relating to professional fishing is expected. It will specify the conditions under which fishing activities can take place in and around the wind farm, guaranteeing harmonious cohabitation between the various maritime activities.

Consultation with users
These new regulations are the fruit of ongoing dialogue between government departments and the various users, including fishermen and the wind farm operator, Ailes Marines. The local nautical commission played a key role in defining these measures, ensuring that they met safety and environmental protection needs while maintaining local economic activities.
Educational presence
To facilitate the transition and ensure compliance with the new rules, government resources will be deployed in the park area. The aim of this presence is to inform and educate sailors about the regulations in force.
