A recurring observation
Augustin, a native of the Basque country, has always had a special relationship with the ocean and the board sports culture. His desire to develop a new product, in line with his values and a need, stemmed from two observations:
"I've been surfing all my life, I was born on the Basque coast and I've been surfing since I was a kid"
Regularly in the water, this waterman has a front-row seat to the plastic pollution that reigns on the beaches of the Atlantic seaboard:
"My first observation is that we regularly witness the presence of plastic waste on beaches. It's everywhere, in the water and on the beach.

My second line of thinking is based on the problem of board storage. When you're lucky enough to surf regularly, you own several boards, which you use according to the conditions you encounter. The whole set is called a quiver. You need to be able to store them properly. On a personal note, my friends and family frequently reprimand me for having boards lying all over the place.
So my aim is to combine these two issues, and create a product that will address both."
Production from plastic waste
To make these racks, Augustin chose an unfortunately inexhaustible raw material: plastic-based waste:
" Bottles, corks, fridge doors: you name it. We collect post-industrial or post-consumer waste. After collection, we sort the waste, because not all waste is compatible for recycling together. For optimum results, we need to bring together waste with similar technical characteristics.
In the conversion process, the waste is shredded and transformed into panels.

From the raw panels, I cut and machine the racks myself to the required dimensions" .
A complete range for optimized storage
Founded in 2021, it took almost 18 months of research to develop the process and the finished product. And the result is quite successful. The material has an aesthetically pleasing multicolored finish, requires no additions, and can be recycled again.

Ederrak now offers a wide range of racks, both standard and made-to-measure, should the need arise. Initially, racks are used to store surfboards and paddles, but they can also be adapted to optimize storage space in a boat's lockers.

And why Ederrak?
" It's simply an acronym of Ederra, which means beautiful in Basque, and the word rack "
