Duracell project: ventilated bannettes and generous equipment

Matt continues to fit out the watch berths and aft cabins, and begins to look forward to the nights on board.

Finishing the stacked bannettes

Begun in the previous episode, the structure of the port side bunks is now complete. Matt assembles the panels from recycled composite sandwiches, after cutting them to size on a template and adjusting them as best he can. He glues them together with cyanolite in place, before taking the sub-assemblies to the workshop for lamination.

Once all the elements are in place, it's time to test the ergonomics of the bunks with temporary slats and a plank mattress. Movement on the low bunk is satisfactory, but the thickness of the mattress remains to be seen.

Matt specifies that the wood fargues will be added later, for added warmth in an almost exclusively painted interior.

Double berth on port side

On the port side, Matt is planning a different layout. It will be a double berth, higher to provide the necessary width. This will accommodate a fuel tank underneath, with a gap in between to allow the mattress to breathe sufficiently. After a few adjustments, the side panels are in place. Matt will finalize the central area in the next episode, laying out the machine room and central circulation with its floor, revealing the real spaces of the layout.
