Olympic Sailing: Success for the French team 1 year ahead of the Olympic Games in Marseille

A year ahead of the 2024 Olympic sailing events, Marseille hosted the dress rehearsal at the Test Event. A successful regatta for France, with 5 medals.

At the close of the Marseille Test Event, the French Olympic Sailing Team has plenty to smile about. It leads the medal table, with 5 solo sailors or crews on the podium, including 4 on the highest step. French sailors distinguished themselves in the new foiling disciplines: Lauriane Nolot and Axel Mezella won gold in kitefoil, as did Nicolas Goyard in iQFOiL windsurfing. In double-handed dinghy racing, the mixed crew of Camille Lecointre and Jérémie Mion also won the 470 title, while Erwan Ficher and Clément Pequin took silver in the 49er.

Performance in every discipline

In the other regattas, the French did not disappoint. Veteran Jean-Baptiste Bernaz came 5th in ILCA7, ex-Laser, and Pernelle Michon 8th in ILCA6. The Tim Mourniac - Mathilde Lovadina duo finished 11th. In the women's 49er, Lara Garnier and Amélie Riou took 14th place, while Lucie Belbeoch finished 13th in the women's windsurfing class.

Successful rehearsal

The Test Event regattas, held on the Olympic waters a year before the Olympic Games, are a key event in the Olympic sailing calendar, providing an opportunity to test one's mettle and make a mark before the event. The French team, which arrived in Marseille with ambitions, came out of the regatta stronger than ever, finishing 1st nation ahead of the Netherlands and Italy. The organization on the ground was also able to make its mark.
