Shock campaign for safety at sea in the Mediterranean

The Préfecture Maritime de Méditerranée unveils a straightforward communication campaign on the risks of sailing. Alcohol at the helm, wearing a lifejacket, speed... Accidents are discussed in no uncertain terms, in the style of road safety.

A straightforward approach to risks at sea for recreational boaters

Boats can also kill... That's how the Préfecture Maritime de la Méditerranée sums up its communication campaign for the start of the summer season. Faced with a public of untrained, unmoored boaters who are not always aware of the risks of the sea, the institutions have decided to strike a blow with shocking phrases and images, to which we are more accustomed for road accidents. Whether you like the method or not, it will certainly have the merit of changing and shaking up a few habits when it comes to casting off and getting on your kite, paddle or kayak.

Unavoidable safety precautions

The Prefecture's campaign focuses on simple and essential subjects: managing speed near the coast to avoid accidents with swimmers and divers, wearing a lifejacket and wetsuit, checking the weather and equipment, but also excessive alcohol consumption on boats, which impairs reflexes and can jeopardize the safety of the crew. With summer just around the corner, it's always worth remembering to avoid unnecessary accidents and, as the SNSM would say, to prevent salt water from tasting like tears.
