Drain cockpit benches
Matt is continuing to fit out the cockpit of his 60-foot Duracell. Once the edges of the cockpit seats have been completed, it's time to build the upper part, which incorporates the openings for the storage lockers. Then there's the question of waterproofing, to keep the equipment out of the rain and out of the sea. To design the peripheral gutters, Matt was inspired by a boat he looks after in Port Townsend, whose C-shaped gutters drain into the cockpit through two holes on the vertical face furthest from the bench.
Mould construction
Once the geometry has been decided, the gutter profiles are sandwiched on molds. This ensures their solidity and shape. It's also important for him to ensure robustness in the event of impact with stored or removed equipment.
Once vacuum-laminated, the parts are fitted and the cut-out trunk panels are tested with temporary hinges. Carbon hinges will then be manufactured.
Matt and his partner Joni take advantage of the episode to celebrate 2 years of the Duracell project and share the doubts they had before setting up their YouTube channel, which has turned out to be a great success!
