Special Edition / UpSideUp: the anti-cavitation system for worry-free sailing

With its recognized expertise in embedded systems, Ocean Data System is reinforcing its commitment to security and control with its UpSideUp solution, which can be adapted to suit specific needs.

In addition to ocean racing, where the Ocean Data System is widely acclaimed, the UpSideUp is also a must-have for multihull sailing programs, whether alone, as a couple or with the family. For obvious reasons of safety and peace of mind on board, it enables you to sail as close as possible to the boat's nominal performance at all times, with no risk to equipment or crew. So much time and energy freed up to enjoy sailing to the full!

UpSideUp, an à la carte solution

UpSideUp offers a comprehensive and relevant range of services, while ensuring ease of use. Three versions (Easy, Master, SuperYacht) are available, depending on the type of project, all of which can be configured à la carte according to the user's needs, sailing program, boat specifications and budget (choice of options, sensors, actuators).

UpSideUp validated by experts

Embarked on most ocean-racing multihulls, like François Gabart's trimaran SVR-Lazartigue, the UpSideUp meets the most demanding requirements.

UpSideUp's main function is to prevent capsizing

The UpSideUp controller embeds an attitude sensor (or external inertial unit) which continuously measures the boat's movements. Depending on predefined parameters, it activates alarms and then commands actuators to release the sheets. The actuators, offered by Ocean Data System, are based on cleats (BCam), snap hooks (TEPSS) or constrictors (ECB). UpSideUp can also control hydraulic systems and reversible winches.

UpSideUp also offers automatic regulation of heel (and rigging forces) by acting on the autopilot, transparently to the crew.

Effort control: to preserve equipment

Depending on the boat's specific requirements, UpSideUp offers rig load control: monitoring, alarms, automatic sheet release, autopilot action, to protect equipment from overloads.

An overall load rate provides a clear picture of how the boat is performing in relation to predefined thresholds.

Ocean Data System, also a specialist in instrumentation, offers force measurement devices, notably with its TensEazy solution. This includes a wide range of wireless and wired load cells, a smartphone app and various connectivity gateways.

A Man overboard function: Passenger safety first and foremost

A particularly relevant service offered by UpSideUp, especially for short-handed offshore sailing programs.

The system makes use of the safety devices usually found on board, to offer a set of innovative processes to help man overboard recovery.

In fact, it can receive alerts from all available MOB detection sources: MOB AIS beacons, radio beacons, MOB buttons or wireless remote control, and launch a number of automated actions.

It is thus possible to automatically release an individual liferaft (Jonbuoy type), to "stop" the boat by easing the sails and acting on the autopilot, and to launch the MOB assistant on the on-board screens.

This function is also available as an independent UpSideUp system with the "MOB Control" solution.

Ocean Data System, which has claimed to be "eco-responsible" since it was founded in 2001, focuses on eco-design and production, "Produit en Bretagne" and "circuit court" sourcing.
