A patented and distinctive design
The Italian shipyard Zar Formenti manufactures RIBs from 3 to 13 meters in its Milanese factory. Since its creation in 1992, the shipyard has built a solid reputation in the inflatable world thanks to its innovative design. The different models are easily recognizable thanks to their rigid and raised "nose" which offers a maximum of space to the bow while deflecting the spray perfectly.
Three ranges for different programs
The models are divided into several ranges, each one meeting specific needs and expectations of boaters.
The historical range represents less than half of the sales today, recognizable by their black floats and white hull. There are 8 models from 4.50 m to 7.42 m. The Zar 53, when launched, quickly became the flagship of the range.
The zF range is the range of high-end tenders dedicated to superyachts. It offers 5 models from 3 to 6 meters. Its luxurious and comfortable layout also makes it a main boat for fun on the water or to reach anchorages for the day.
The sL range - Sport Luxury - is the most recent range of Zar, created less than 10 years ago. Before that, the shipyard had developed the Mako range, in partnership with Suzuki, to match the competition, but at high prices. Although the range is still in the catalog, with two models of 5.80 m and 6.80 m, respectively the Mako 58 and 68, production is really marginal. Today, the SL range includes 4 models from 4.9 m to 9.60 m in length.
A new modern and aggressive design for the Sport Luxury range
With this new range, the Milanese shipyard has introduced a more modern and aggressive design with the same gull-wing hulls that have made the shipyard's reputation. The shipyard has also kept the ergonomics and the concept of well-equipped boats, offering numerous lockers and storage spaces.
The name has also changed for better readability. Before, the name of the boat corresponded to the size of the boat, i.e. 5.30 m for the Zar 53. However, thanks to their patented design and their elongated hull, the comparison with a model of the same size was distorted, the Zar 53 corresponding to a model of 6 m equivalent. Today, the SL range has a name in line with its length and power.
A configurator to create a unique boat
Another big change for the brand, which has a limited handcrafted production, is the arrival of the configurator. Thanks to the online tool, owners can now customize their boat in terms of floats, hull or upholstery, with different colors of gel coat, socks... Thanks to a hundred combinations, each Zar boat can become unique. This configurator also allows to give a new breath to the historical range with a new look.
A jump in large units
With the average shopping basket having tripled since the Covid in 2019, 150,000 euros in 2023, and the size of boats sold increased - minimum 8 m long today - Zar has decided to enter the XXL RIB market. Launched in 2022, the Zar 130 Imagine, with its 13-meter length and 2x600 horsepower, retains all of the Milanese manufacturer's know-how and provides the most luxurious layout. Its limited production makes it a jewel that owners are eager to acquire. Proof of this is the fact that the order book is full until 2024, with 4 models sold each year.
