Wind Challenge 2023, a huge gathering for surfing enthusiasts

From May 12 to 21, 2023, the Wind Challenge will take place in Gruissan, in Occitania. A gathering of surfing lovers which for more than 20 years has become an unmissable event.

Since 2001, the Wind Challenge gathers windsurfing lovers. Along the beach of Gruissan, more than a thousand windsurfers meet for a - very - long sail.

To integrate new disciplines, the Wind Challenge welcomed kites in 2013 and Wings in 2022.

A 40 km round trip along the beach

The principle of this event is simple. The course extends over 20 km along the beach, between Gruissan and Port-La-Nouvelle, which must be covered in round trip. The 3 disciplines sail each during 3 days. For 2023, the kites start from May 12 to 14, then the wings from May 15 to 17, and finally the windsurfers from May 18 to 21. Each day, a departure is given for a round trip of 40 km.

More than 1000 participants

If windsurfing remains the queen category, with more than 1200 competitors on the same starting line in 2022, kites and wings already announce about 200 participants in each category.

A competition open to all

With such a large number of people on the water, the atmosphere is festive and all ages can be found on the starting line. Registration is open to all, even the youngest, with the possibility of taking a license only for the event.

Gruissan is known for its regular and strong wind. The races will be launched even with 35 knots, which promises a great show on the water. The party is also on land where a "surfing village" is organized with more than 50 brands exhibiting their products. An unmissable event for all board lovers.
