Duracell Project: Designing showers on a boat

Matt continues to work on the conversion of the former Duracell racing yacht into a cruising boat. It's time to look at the ergonomics of the future shower and toilet, but also to work on painting the drinking water tanks.

Positioning the boat's sanitary facilities correctly

After having worked on the organization of the front cabin, Matt tackles the scale model of the future Duracell bathroom. To keep the headroom, despite the volumes of an old racing boat, he dismantled the old rotten balsa floors, the future floors coming flush with the structure of the bottoms.

For more comfort, the toilet and shower are as close as possible to the axis. The movements at sea will be less important and the toilet while sailing will be easier. After some hesitation, Matt also chooses a closed shower cabin with a door, to limit water projections.

Following the comments, Matt proposes a new configuration in the 2nd episode of the day. This one avoids wasted space, for a greater feeling of space.

Food grade paints

Following the arrival of a sponsorship from Akzo Nobel, the manufacturer of the Interlux, International and Awlgrip brands, Matt has the help of a specialist in the choice of paint for the ballast system. The ballast system will be used for drinking water. He finished the supports for the tank ceilings, before rolling the paint on the inside of the tanks.
