A fuel cell to replace diesel generators
Alice is a climate-neutral yacht model from the German shipyard Lürssen. With this 98 m long and 17 m wide concept, inspired by the movie Alice in Wonderland, the shipyard is demonstrating future possibilities. A zero-emission fuel cell generates electrical energy from hydrogen reformed from green methanol. This replaces conventional diesel generators. An additional methanol engine is on board to generate higher speeds and cover peak energy consumption. The shipyard estimates that with this system, Alice is able to sail up to 1,000 nautical miles without emissions and can stay up to 15 days at anchor without any emissions.
Energy savings
Energy-saving technologies such as heat recovery or mirrored glass windows for thermal insulation are used to reduce the energy input of air conditioning systems. Teak is replaced by lightweight organic wood. The yacht's tenders and water toys are also fully electric, so there are no diesel engines on board.

An exterior and interior design oriented towards nature
The unconventional design reveals a completely exterior main deck. Lürssen realized that many owners did not use it. The various living spaces were therefore positioned in the upper superstructure. The deck offers a 100-meter long outdoor terrace for any activity. The foredeck is a sort of interweaving of decks, pools and vegetation to create a natural space in the open sea.
Inside, the design is by Dasha Moranova Designs and offers a sleek and elegant layout.
