From the land, from the sea, or from your screen, here's how not to miss the start of the Route du Rhum given this Wednesday, November 9, 2022 at 14:15 from Saint-Malo. This record edition, which welcomes 138 sailors, should be a great spectacle!

Watch the departure from the sea

There are several ways to watch the departure from the sea. Either from a passenger ship accredited by the race direction, after the payment of an entry ticket. You will then move to zone 2, north of the starting line. Either by your own means zone 3, which is free and accessible to all boaters, provided that they sail exclusively under motor power. However, motorized watercraft such as jet-skis or jet skis are not allowed.

These are no less than 50 RIBs and 120 race volunteers who will ensure the safety of the plan on the day of departure. Not to mention the SNSM boats, but also the teams' own boats. For example, an Ultim team must have 3 RIBs for safety. In total, at least 150 RIBs will be used to ensure the safety of the racers and boaters.

The start will be given from the grouin's point in Cancale, with multihulls to the north and monohulls to the south. From land, you will be able to settle directly on the point, except for the extreme end, in "natural" stands, but also on the Point of Meinga or The Guard . However, be careful, these Natura 2000 areas are protected and will be monitored to avoid damage. The Pointe du Grouin being a popular place, we advise you to come early. Shuttles will ensure the connection.

The Cape Fréhel will be the first mark to turn before the skippers set sail. The first to pass this mark will win the CIC Cap Fréhel Trophy. To avoid overflow, the capacity will be limited to 19,000 people. Here too, volunteers will be responsible for monitoring the protected site.

Numerous other points spread between Cancale and Cap Fréhel can offer beautiful views of the starting area. Be careful, most of them will be closed to traffic, so think about how to get there.

The large screens in the Route du Rhum village will also broadcast the start live, from 1:35 pm to 3:30 pm, with renowned skippers coming to comment on the race. 60 m2 of screens will be set up on the Saint-Vincent esplanade and 24 m2 in the Fosse aux Lions in front of the castle. Doors close at 5 pm!
