Test / PRAM : A dinghy whose price will depend on the time invested !

Designed for self-builders, the PRAM is sold at different stages of construction. If you don't count your time, this is an affordable dinghy compared to the market, with elegance and originality!

From kit boat to dinghy

As an amateur builder, the price of the boat depends on the stage of completion at the time of delivery. Depending on the time he can invest, the future owner of the PRAM will pay progressive rates.

In the most classic case, the customer will buy a complete kit to build his dinghy, excluding resins, screws and consumables. This kit includes the Okoumé plywood parts for the hull and appendages, cut by numerical control, but also the dummy to facilitate assembly, the complete fittings, the mast, the boom, as well as the dacron mainsail. An illustrated construction manual is also provided. The set will be sold in July 2022 at 5,460 euros.

For those who have more time, it is possible to make do with the plans at 200 euros, taking care of the cutting and purchasing. The cutting file can also be sold to take care of the digital cutting at your expense. It is also possible to purchase only the plywood kit for 2,580 euros

However, not everyone will want or be able to build their own PRAM. BOW has therefore joined forces with the marine carpenter Nicolas Arnould. This one proposes the PRAM ready to sail at 11 640 euros.

Few options

A simple boat, a simple offer. Few options are available. Sailors will be able to buy a membrane sail for more performance. In the same way, one can opt for a full sapele plywood, for an extra 840 euros.

Some options such as a protective cover are being considered.

An atypical program

Like any rare boat on the market, it is difficult to compare the price of the PRAM to existing dinghies. It is far from a solo dinghy "plastic" . A Laser ready to sail, is proposed around 6 000 euros TTC. But this one is far from being ideal for the walking program.

If one turns to self-building in plywood, one will find plans in traditional designs at comparable prices. A Morbic 12 kit, a clamshell sail and oar boat, costs around 5,400 euros (incl. VAT). With its modern design, the PRAM has found its place without blushing on the market of atypical wooden dinghies. Let's hope that it motivates tomorrow's amateur marine carpenters!
