Gerys 4.7 : The dinghy to learn foiling makes its first flights

The first Gerys 4.7 hit the water for its first tests. First pictures of this 100% Breton multipurpose dinghy, intended for learning foil, but also sailing in general.

Launching of the 1st Gerys 4.7

Announced in early 2021, the Gerys 4.7 conducted its first tests off Erdeven. The foil dinghy, designed by Raphaël Censier and built by his brother Erwan, made its first tacks in May 2022. As shown in the first video published, it meets the promises made by the two young men and flies in a stable manner. "We're going to make some adjustments to the prototype but we're very happy. The boat gives great sensations" explains the manufacturer.

A versatile dinghy

The Censier brothers worked on the hull shapes to take off quickly, but also to be able to sail with the foils retracted. "This is an ultra-versatile boat that can sail from 2 to 25 knots of wind. The innovative hull allows to limit the wetted surface and to sail with or without foils. With a very large cockpit, you can be 3 adults on board. It can be used solo, double or triple. We are targeting sailing schools, because the boat allows to take beginners on board" explains Erwan Censier.

100% Breton construction

The boat is entirely built in Erdeven, in the Morbihan region of France, by the shipyard run by Erwan Censier. The investment in a digital milling machine has enabled the preforms to be made in-house and all the molds for the infusion construction. The hull and deck are made of glass-vinylester composite with an Airex or PET core depending on the area. The appendages, foils and rudders are made of carbon and epoxy resin.

The design of the boat integrates a wheel attachment on the boat which allows to get rid of the launching trailers.

A 100% equipped sailboat

The Gerys 4.7 is offered fully equipped, with the idea of being able to create a one-design. With a set of Delta Voiles sails including the Code 0, the self-tacking jib and the mainsail in black membrane, the Harken fittings, the dinghy of 4.70 meters long is today proposed at the price of 25 600euros TTC, the price objective announced in 2021 having to be revised upwards.

This newcomer, along with the Birdyfish or the Peacoq, shows the excitement around the potential market of the foil dinghy for sailing schools.
