From refurbishment to complete rework of the cabin
When Jean-Baptiste retrieves his sailboat, the interior betrays the age of his Edel 5, built in 1975. If it is not in a catastrophic state, it is far from being new. So he wants to refresh it a bit. But as a perfectionist, as he was for the exterior of the boat, he finally decided to redo the entire cabin.

Exposure of the composite
The composite technician in town quickly tackles the various surfaces of the boat. The interior surfaces of the deck and hull are stripped with lapidary. Jean-Baptiste then redoes everything with gelcoat. "I tried it with the spray gun, but already without that, given the size of the booth, even with the mask, it was difficult." he admits.

For the hull counter-mold, Jean-Baptise uses white glossy lacquer.
Electrical installation and courtesy lighting
If he doesn't touch the interior layout of the Edel 5, the young man adds some modern options. He installs a battery for which he makes a home-made tray. This battery supplies the LED courtesy lights placed around the car. He also installed a car radio and speakers to listen to music while sailing or at anchor. "Charging is currently planned to be shore-based. In the future, I may add a solar panel." says the do-it-yourself boater.

Careful carpentry
Jean-Baptiste then set about the aesthetic finishing touches, starting with the woodwork. Nice oak armrests were added between the saloon and the front berth. The companionway step is redone in the same material and beads highlight the cushions and the edges of the cushion. Brass spikes ensure the elegance of the fasteners.

Discovery of the saddlery
Jean-Baptiste is not afraid to take the plunge and starts sewing for the occasion. He recovers foam and improvises himself as a saddler to make the cushions for the saloon seats, the rear bunks and the Breton bed. Pushing the details, he adds a backlit vaigrage at the foot of the rear bunks.

The interior of the Edel 5 version 2022 is now worthy of a new boat!
