Lagoon 51, evolution of an already popular catamaran

Lagoon is not the world's leading catamaran builder for nothing. The new Lagoon 51 is an example of the shipyard's technical and commercial know-how. Let's discover this newcomer in the 50-foot (15.35 m) cruising catamaran category.

A catamaran lightened by a new rigging plan

The Lagoon catamaran shipyard has upgraded its Lagoon 50 to the Lagoon 51. If this yacht keeps the same hulls, it is the whole structure between the two that has evolved. Indeed, since 2013, under the impulse of the VPLP cabinet, the shipyard had taken the option to move back the masts of the catamarans. Instead of resting on the front beam, they were supported by a complex structure between the two hulls. With this position, the sail plan is more efficient and easier to maneuver with a large self-tacking jib. The disadvantage is the sponge in the center of the nacelle, which blocks a little the arrangements and especially the weight of this additional structure (at least 1 ton).

With the Lagoon 51, the shipyard has gone back to a more classical configuration of the mast position. The boat gains 1 ton (19.9 T against 20.8 T light). And above all, the saloon gains in feeling of volume in the absence of this central post. The sail area remains the same.

Green trend

With this boat, the shipyard wants to communicate its ability to "sail clean". Aware that their customers who love the sea and beautiful spaces are sensitive to this argument, Lagoon has announced a solution of solar panels integrated into the deckhouse. With panels that adapt to the surface, this boat can receive up to 3400 W, which gives it autonomy at anchor (without the night air conditioning). Still in this "green" trend, the fabrics used for the upholstery are entirely made of recycled materials.

The Lagoon 51 has a huge flybridge with a manoeuvring area at the front and the helm positioned just behind the mast.

There is a relaxation area behind, very well equipped with benches and other sunbeds. This fly is accessible by 2 side stairs, thus isolated from the cockpit below. The boat also benefits from a front cockpit for evening aperitifs at anchor.

The cockpit, well protected from the sun or the rain, will be the dining area during the cruise. There is a plancha installed on a pivot that allows the cook to sit in the cockpit or in the starboard skirt. Practical and smart!

An impressive volume

We enter the square through a large double door, with an immediate wow effect. The volume is impressive. The chart table on the starboard side offers a very large work surface that hides the television. On either side of the entrance, the galley opens directly onto the cockpit. And above all, the mast sponge in the center of the windows does not obstruct the view. We note the large central opening porthole to ensure good ventilation to this interior.

The hulls, always so voluminous at Lagoon, accommodate from 4 to 6 double cabins with of course the possibility of reserving the starboard hull for an owner's suite. In this configuration, the bathroom is so large that it has 2 washbasins facing each other

An XXL skirt

To facilitate access on board, the Lagoon 51 has an extended bathing platform. Indeed, the skirts are wider than the hulls to be right next to the pontoon when the boat is under power. This necessarily requires the use of a large round fender to support the hulls when maneuvering. Otherwise, this arrangement will not interfere when the boat is berthed. At anchor, the surface of these platforms will be all the more pleasant.

Promise of commercial success?

Available at 885,000 euros excluding VAT, the Lagoon 51 meets the specifications of both the charterer with skipper and the owner who wants to go on a long voyage. This positioning should offer the same success as the Lagoon 50, of which more than 300 have already been produced
