Web series / Duracell project: Rebirth of a sailboat from the 1st Vendée Globe

Matt starts the transformation of a sailboat that participated in the 1st Vendée Globe into a cruising sailboat. Presentation of the project, started with a simple post indicating that the ex Duracell was offered to whoever would renovate it.

Rebirth of one of the world's first Open 60s

Built by the American sailor Mike Plant, the Spirit of Minnesota, better known as Duracell, participated in the first edition of the Vendée Globe in 1989. After a remarkable career, especially in the United States, the dismasted yacht had been abandoned for 25 years in the garden of its last owner on the outskirts of Seattle.

This is where his new story begins. Wishing to get rid of it, he posts an ad on a forum to give the ex-racing boat to the one who will refurbish it. Matt answered the call and set up his project, called Project Duracell. He will transform the old sailboat designed for the solo round the world race into a cruising boat. An adventure he shares in video.

Exceptional convoy

In this first episode, he documents the transfer by truck of the ship to its backyard. In the middle of the North American wilderness, the exceptional convoy and the condition of the hull show the importance and the difficulty of the undertaking. A challenge that we will follow together with interest!
