Persico 40Fly One Design, a new class of sailboat inspired by the America's Cup

Italian shipyard Persico Marine has shifted its R&D work to the 36th America's Cup to create a new circuit of hydrofoil monohulls directly inspired by the AC75 for wealthy owners. The first unit of the Persico 40Fly One Design is under construction.

A fast foiler for passionate owners

Persico Marine is one of the major shipyards specializing in regattas and ocean racing. The shipyard has collaborated with the Ultimates and IMOCA classes, the Volvo Ocean Race circuit, as well as the Luna Rossa team for the construction of the Italian challenger's AC75. This experience will be transferred to a public of wealthy owners and speed enthusiasts by creating a new one-design class and a new circuit.

A sailboat inspired by the AC75 of the America's Cup

In 2021, the manufacturer presented the Persico 40Fly One Design, a new one-design sailboat concept inspired by the America's Cup flying monohulls. According to the first sketches, it is a scale model of the AC75, from which it takes the characteristics, namely a system of T-shaped tilting foils and a rudder also in T, a wing mast, and electro-hydraulic flight controls powered by 4 batteries.

11.8 m long and 3.4 m wide, the Persico 40 Fly Design weighs 1,600 kilos. It can accommodate a crew of 5 people and takes off from 7 knots of real wind. The expected speeds are impressive: 25 knots upwind, 38 knots downwind!

The sail plan of 100 m2 meets the rule box and includes a mainsail and a self-tacking jib. The automation of the controls has been thought to facilitate and secure the flight, even during gybes and tacks.

Production start-up

The design of the one-design foiler has been entrusted to the famous designer Pininfarina and the first unit made of carbon is being built at the shipyard in Nembro. It is owned by Pierre Casiraghi, Vice President of the Yacht Club of Monaco, and Peter Harrison, YCM member, CEO EMEA of the Swiss watchmaker Richard Mille, who will participate in the first international class championship in 2023.

A worldwide race circuit

The Persico 40 Fly One Design is expected to create a new one-design racing circuit for sailboat owners who love high-level racing. The races will be a mix of fleet racing and match racing, with approximately 4 to 6 races per year making up the World Grand Prix. Several cities have already been proposed in Europe and the United States: Geneva, Saint-Tropez, Lake Garda, Porto Cervo, Cagliari, Palma, Capri, Miami.
