Pioneer in innovation
Pure is the latest concept from custom yacht builder Feadship. With a length of 81.75 m, it was inspired both by customer demands for innovation - ecological design, multi-functional spaces, large outdoor areas, privacy, autonomy, glass superstructures... - and by the desire to develop a new generation yacht with clean propulsion. Feadship has been involved in the design of the yacht of the future for several years now, and in particular in its propulsion, which has been hybrid since 2007.
Fuel tanks that adapt to different propulsion systems
The shipyard has worked with Studio De Voogt to create a concept that could already see the light of day in 2024, as it is equipped with evolving systems, particularly in terms of propulsion. Initially launched in three years as a diesel-electric hybrid with batteries and generators running on fossil diesel, Pure could be converted to run on methanol over the years. The first step will be in 2027 with a hybrid of battery packs and generators running on methanol, and then in 2020, with fuel cells running entirely on methanol.

A huge atrium on 3 decks
In addition to her propulsion, Pure stands out for her deck layout, especially her three-deck atrium aft. From the sundeck, a large central opening on the deck allows views all the way to the main deck pool, thanks to a second huge central opening in the upper deck. The large glass structure adds to the indoor/outdoor feel. The lines are flush and elegant, with a superstructure of reasonable size for the size of the boat and 5 decks, one of which is dedicated to the tanks.

The sun deck - at the very top of the boat - features a large Jacuzzi at the front with braziers, a bar area amidships and a dining area at the back, and sofas all around the glass railing of the central balcony. This deck is directly connected to the owners' deck below. On this upper deck, the aft lounge is dramatically coupled with the atrium. The large master stateroom is located forward, as Pure does not have a traditional wheelhouse. Another Jacuzzi is nestled on the foredeck for maximum privacy. The two side tender garages are also located forward, not aft as in most yachts.

The main deck is bathed in light that enters directly from the upper decks. The large terrace houses a swimming pool with benches, hidden from view. Large staircases lead down to the huge bathing platform, which folds up when sailing. From this space, one has access to a Jacuzzi with a retractable transparent bottom, in the center of the ship, but also to all the guest cabins. Balconies open to the side to enjoy the sea. The rest of the main deck is completely open with dining and relaxation areas to enjoy the sea view. Two more exterior staircases lead to the main deck.

Control via an internal command center
Another innovation is that Pure does not have a wheelhouse dedicated to piloting the vessel. This yacht is controlled from a hidden control room, a bit like in a submarine or a warship. Numerous screens and cameras provide access to all the data needed for navigation: radar, AIS, charts and depth sounder. These are combined and presented in an augmented reality system.

The Feadship Foresight program provides additional assistance to the captain and crew on the current situation, motion prediction, routing, onboard comfort and finding the most fuel-efficient way to travel between ports of call. Foresight is connected to an online server that generates customized, high-resolution wind, sea and wave forecasts, even in relatively sheltered areas.
If necessary, teams can take control of the boat manually from a steering station on the sundeck accessible from a staircase in the middle of the boat.
