Exclusive / The CCMM suggests that you send your medical file before going to sea

In Toulouse, the CCMM offers free remote consultations to boaters when they are at sea. To guarantee the effectiveness of such a consultation, it is essential to organize your departure by communicating the essential medical information to the center in advance.

Insurance, fuel, supplies and water are on board. We have thought of everything, or almost everything, to have a pleasant time on the water. Everything except, most often, the health of the crew. If everything is fine when you set sail, an injury, illness or discomfort can suddenly be complicated to manage at sea. All the more so if you have to give your medical contact all the information about the affected crew member.

It is to overcome this communication difficulty that the Maritime Medical Consultation Center, a branch of the SAMU of Toulouse, proposes to the yachtsmen to communicate, before their departure, the medical file of each of the embarked crew members. The idea is to provide the doctors who make up this center with all the information (medical history, treatments, state of health, possible addictions...) which will allow, in case of accident or incident involving this crew member, to better react and adapt the treatments.

The captain does not know the medical history of his crew members

Indeed, under stress, it can sometimes be complicated to describe a person's entire medical file. Especially since the captain has neither the authority, nor the competence, nor, more simply, the confidence of his crew to be informed of all the health conditions of his crew members.

Bound by professional secrecy, the doctors who make up the CCMM will be able to decipher and use the information that each team member will have submitted via a form available on the center's website. This document is precise enough to provide useful information and broad enough for each person to feel free to indicate everything that is necessary.

Consistent naming of the boat between crew members

Once completed, send this document by e-mail or by mail to CCMM. Each crew member can do it on his own, we recommend that you make sure that the naming of the boat is consistent between each, so that the operators can easily access each of the files.

The composition of the on-board pharmacy is important

In addition, the CCMM recommends that the complete composition of the on-board pharmacy be communicated to the CCMM. Both the mandatory part and any additions or deletions are useful information to communicate. This information will be used to react and advise with knowledge of the capabilities of the ship. A form is also available on the website of the consultation center.
