Hallberg-Rassy 400, a rear cockpit for the Nordic shipyard

After the 400C, Hallberg-Rassy announces the launch of the 400 for the summer of 2021. A 12.30 m sailboat with a rear cockpit and a double wheel. A layout that is not common for this Swedish brand.

In 2020, the Swedish shipyard Hallberg-Rassy presented a new model: the 400 C . The C stands for Cruising. On the same basis, the yard is back this year with the Halberg-Rassy 400. A yacht of the same size, but with a different deck plan.

A Hallberg-Rassy is above all a cruising yacht. Designed for short-handed sailing, it offers, above all, a comfortable way of sailing and living on board. These yachts are characterized by a careful construction and a very protected cockpit behind a rigid windshield. Most of the models in the range from 31 to 64 feet are equipped with a central cockpit. This layout allows for a large and voluminous aft cabin, which is very pleasant for life in port or at anchor and particularly appreciated by yacht owners.

The new Hallberg-Rassy 400 (unlike the 400 C) has a rear cockpit with a transom opening. A swim platform also opens up to provide good access for swimming or boarding the tender.

The double steering wheel frees the central passage. A beautiful teak table has been added to the cokpit of this yacht, which is very similar to its French counterparts. The rigid windscreen, on which a sprayhood is often fitted, is still present, a trademark of the Nordic yard.

In terms of manoeuvring, the piano is distributed on each side of the coamings. This means that the yacht can be managed from there without leaving the cockpit, using the electric winches. The boat is supplied with a low-coverage jib to make tacking easier, but you can also opt for the self-tacking option, which is a bit of a disadvantage downwind, but so much fun when you need to tack. A bowsprit, which also serves as an anchor halyard, is provided for tacking downwind sails.

The layouts are modular. The yacht is available in 2 or 3 cabins, with 1 or 2 bathrooms. No more large aft cabin, on the 400 the owner is housed in the forward cabin. Under the cockpit at the rear, there are one or two double cabins. All of these features are designed with navigation in mind. This can be seen, for example, in the position of the tanks, which are at the lowest point of the boat, almost in the keel.

The first Halberg-Rassy 400 will be presented at Scandinavia's largest sailboat show, the Open Yard Ellös, Orust, from 27 to 30 August 2021.
