Vendée Globe, a race that changes the men who venture into it

This book brings together the portraits of all the skippers who took part in the Vendée Globe. From the first edition in 1989 to the one that ended in 2017. A gallery of portraits of men with their boats treated with care and delicacy.

There are several ways to tell the story of the different editions of the Vendée Globe. In " Vendée Globe, the adventurers of the Deep South ", the authors opted to give a voice to the sailors, all the sailors.

This is the strength of this beautiful book (27 x 35 cm which could require to enlarge the shelves of your library...). It combines large photos, but above all leaves a lot of space for the text.

The absence of a race course requires the reader to have a good historical knowledge of ocean racing. However, the portrait of each of the competitors, their rankings and their impressions give strength to the book.

The whole book is also embellished with drawings by François Chevalier, who sketched each of the yachts that took part in this mythical race. The first double page with all the boats at the start is a splendid colourful fresco.

Published on the occasion of the start of the 2020 Vendée Globe, this book (an updated edition) stops at the portraits of the participants in the 2016 Vendée Globe. The 33 skippers of 2020 are only listed on the last page. While waiting for the edition that will be offered in 4 years time?
