Apex 850, the world's largest sloop is looking for its owner

The shipbuilder Royal Huisman in collaboration with the naval architecture firm Malcom McKeon Yacht Design unveil the Apex 850, the world's largest sloop. This 85-metre-long sailing yacht is ready to be launched, subject to the purchase of a wealthy owner.

Shipbuilder Royal Huisman and naval architect Malcom McKeon Yacht Design present the Apex 850, the world's largest sloop and the world's largest aluminium sailing yacht. This 85 m long mega sloop - which is only waiting for its future owner - will be one of the 10 largest sailing ships in the world.

"Two of the ten largest sailing ships in the world, Athena and Sea Eagle II, were built by Royal Huisman. The APEX 850 would be a perfect complement to this duo, taking the place of the largest boat in this elite circle." explains the builder.

A gigantic mast

The main feature of the Apex 850 is her incredible 107 m high rigging. By way of comparison, the Statue of Liberty is 93 m high at haut?! Carbon mast and furling boom support 3?200 m2 of sail area upwind and 4?700 m2 downwind. Thanks to an integrated navigation system and captive winches capable of towing up to 48 tonnes, Royal Huisman says the sails can be set or lowered in just a few minutes.

A flush and minimalist bridge

The minimalist steering wheels installed on either side of the deck benefit from an unobstructed view of the horizon without being hindered by the roof.

The long hull with inverted bow gives the boat an elegant profile. Built in aluminium for extra strength, it saves weight on steel. The Apex 850 is equipped with an 8.5 m retractable keel that will allow her to sail with a reduced draft of 5 m.

The flush deck offers a huge living space, completely devoid of equipment, all hidden or retracted into the wooden surface. In the centre of the boat is a recessed cockpit accessible via a few steps. The latter is fully protected by a glass superstructure that offers a breathtaking view of the sea. The windows retract completely into the deck to enjoy the sea air.

At the front of the mast, the forward guest cockpit is strategically located to focus on the spectacle offered by the horizon. This cosy and secure assembly area is sheltered by a Moroccan tent when the yacht is at anchor.

A spacious interior

Below deck, the Apex 850 offers four 30 m2 guest suites that can accommodate up to 12 people in luxurious comfort. The cabins adapt to the owner's wishes: double, twin or family.

At the back is the owners' area. This area of 250 m2 is extended by a large beach club/cinema in the open air. The large cabin installed across the entire width of the boat includes a private lounge, a giant television, a sauna, a dressing room and a spacious bathroom. Large windows let the light flood in. Doors open from the owner's cabin to access the beach club, also accessible from the deck. This 50 m2 platform unfolds silently, in the extension of a gym and lounge.

A large crew quarter

On the lower deck level, on the same level as the guest cabins are the crew quarters (14 crew members in 10 cabins), with the mess, galley, storage and engine rooms. At the bow, two large 8 m tenders are dry in a garage and accessible directly from port and starboard platforms.

A wide range of equipment

Also on board the Apex 850 is a wine cellar, a cigar cellar, a private kitchenette in the owners' suite and a guest lounge with many amenities. There is a 50 m2 lazarette in the middle of the ship housing a toilet, storage space for diving equipment and toys, and access to the boarding/bathing platforms.

Hybrid propulsion

For the propulsion, the shipyard has chosen to equip its sailboat with a diesel-electric system to offer better energy efficiency and minimize environmental impact. The generators as well as the intelligent energy management system optimize energy efficiency while reliably responding to various loads from the navigation systems.

Owner search

If the project is already defined, the owner can nevertheless give his own ideas and desires to customize his boat to his tastes. The shipyard also offers an immersive virtual tour, reserved exclusively for future owners.
