Bertrand Corbel is an amateur, one who loves... Sailing is something he has been doing for a long time. Previously a boat courier in the Atlantic and the Mediterranean, he studied art (history of art). He became an illustrator and in 2017 he accompanied Yvan Bourgnon on his adventure when he crossed the Northwest Passage on his sports catamaran. Every day he publishes an illustration based on what the navigator tells him. A collection of drawings will come out of it.
When Jean-Luc Van Den Heede came back from his world tour in old school mode on his Rustler 36, he got the urge to tell this story in comics. So he read the sailor's book, but decided not to follow him, focusing on a few important scenes and even going back over some of the sailor's episodes during his two Vendée Globe participations.
It is a comic book in A4 format with a lot of charcoal drawing with coloured plates. The little text is brought back in pencil by hand, often in the form of a caption under the picture.
At the end of 2019 (at the Paris Boat Show),Jean-Luc Van Den Heede saw the first plates and after having corrected some technical details, gave his approval for the realization of the comic book. Today 37 plates (out of the 51 pages planned) have already been produced. Rather than calling on a publishing house, Bertrand Corbel decided to publish it himself. This is why he is launching a subscription to finance the production (graphic designer for the layout and printing).
