The French builder Outremer, whose workshops are based in La Grande-Motte, will launch its new catamaran, the Outremer 55, in 2021. This catamaran is part of the range (4 models) between the Outremer 51 and the 5X, which is actually a 60-footer.
With a waterline length of 16.73 m, this new model from VPLP fills the gap left in the range by offering more space than the 51-footer to live aboard, but still remains simple to use by a family crew (no need for a skipper as on the 5X). This is because Outremer catamarans are often bought by a couple who mainly sail as a couple.
Modular double helm station
One of the main innovations of this model are its two tilting wheel bars. You can either steer from the deck, standing upright or comfortably seated in a double seat, or steer from the cockpit, tilting the wheel, to navigate protected by the rigid bimini and enjoy good forward visibility from the front window of the main deck.
An island for the kitchen
There is a layout on the same level between the cockpit and the saloon, where another novelty is to be found: a central island in the galley. This will allow you to continue cooking while keeping in touch with the people in the cockpit, for example, or while keeping an eye on the sea through the windows. An extension of the islet folds out into the cockpit to enjoy an indoor/outdoor meal without having to set up the table in the cockpit.
3 or 4 cabins
In the floaters, we find classically the cabins. In the owner's version (3 cabins), the starboard hull will be reserved for the owner and will offer a space in front of the float that can be converted according to needs: office, dressing room... The port hull will be the guests' hull with two cabins and two toilets. A 4-cabin version is also in the catalogue.
