Special Edition / Wichard Offshore Rescue Safety Knife

Wichard launches a new range of knives dedicated to rescue operations and extreme sports. Delivered with its rigid case, this knife meets the new practices of sailing and safety professionals.

If sailors are accustomed to carrying their knives, it's not just for cutting sausages. Knives are also safety equipment. In the event of a problem, you often need to act quickly and be able to cut a rope or strap holding you to the boat. That's why sailboats often come with "ready-to-use" knives attached to the vang, companionway or steering column.

For sailors and safety professionals

Wichard is launching a new range of knives for this purpose. This range has been designed to meet the needs of racers for whom sailing has evolved considerably in recent years. Indeed, the arrival of foils, flying sailboats and fickle multihulls calls for specific safety equipment, given the speeds reached and the risks incurred. To meet this demand, Wichard has worked closely with racers (Diam 24, Figaro, GC32...) and rescue professionals (firefighters, sea rescuers, the army...) to design the most effective knife, but also the safest to use. The new Wichard knife is the result of all these efforts. It is a knife with a fixed blade (not foldable) that can be stored in a rigid sheath.

A special blade

Wichard's blacksmithing expertise is expressed in the blade. It is very strong, 3 mm thick, and made of N680 stainless steel for excellent cutting performance and corrosion resistance.

The shape has been designed to offer maximum efficiency and minimum risk. The tip is round, so as not to injure yourself or the victim you are rescuing. The blade is fully serrated to cut through even the toughest materials. The blade also features a shredder. Finally, the small point at the end of the blade is designed to pierce a canvas or trampoline.

A secure case

This knife comes with its own rigid sheath. The sheath is secure, i.e. it keeps the knife locked inside. The knife is released by pressing the black trigger on the underside of the handle. Keeping the knife securely in its sheath is important, as it ensures that the knife will always be in position, even in the event of a capsize or fall...

To attach it, this case has 4 loops on its edges for attaching it to numerous supports: bar column, mast foot, trampoline, but also to a lifejacket or forearm. It can be attached with straps, a toggle or a collar. The case's flat surfaces also allow it to be glued to a cockpit wall, for example.
