The bilge pumps installed in our boats often have a small capacity in case of a large inflow of water. Therefore, it is often necessary to use an additional means to evacuate the water. It is often said that the best bilge pump is a scared man with a bucket of water. But let's see what other means are available on board to bail out.
On board, to prevent the waterways, compose a box with the first aid kit:
- Pinoche
- Clamp
- Vulcanizing roller
- Water curing sealant
- A hose extension
1 - Use the engine's seawater pump
Your engine has a powerful pump to suck in the sea water and cool it. With a little DIY beforehand, you can have an additional pump. To do this, connect a T-connector with valves to your seawater suction circuit, allowing the suction to be redirected through a 5/6 m flying hose.
This water will be sucked by the motor pump for cooling.
In the event of an electrical problem, this system can be an alternative to the electric pump.

2 - Use the shower pump
In addition to your bilge pump and the engine seawater pump, you can also use your shower pump for boats that are equipped with one.
