Web series / Under The Pole III: End of the Deep Hope program and beginning of new adventures

In this episode, you will find the major actors of the Deep Hope programme, who look back on a year spent exploring the Polynesian depths and discovering deep coral reefs.

Since August 2018, the Why has been sailing in French Polynesia with the entire crew of Under The Pole on board. For a year, the crew worked on the Deep Hope program, studying deep corals. On the program, divers and scientists explored 5 archipelagos, 12 islands and collected samples from 24 sites.

Today, the program is coming to an end and the crew of the Why returns to Makatea - an atoll with huge limestone cliffs and impenetrable jungle - for 12 days. He will explore the last two scientific sites of the program.

Over these twelve months of continuous mission, Ghislain and Emmanuelle collaborated with a team of scientists to understand and find a solution to the destruction of surface corals. A solution that could, according to the samples, be found at great depths, at a depth of more than 90 m.

The team divers made about 800 dives in the deep zone with a record at 172 m, where the deepest mesophotic coral ever collected in the world was found.

After a well-deserved rest for the whole team, it will be time for them to immerse themselves in another mission. At the beginning of August, the crew of Under The Pole will focus on Capsule Program . Immersed for several days, divers will study whales, the reproduction of lemon sharks, but also the physiological impact of a long immersion on the human body.

This adventure will be broadcasted through 8 episodes, broadcasted from mid-August to mid-November.
