scUber, a submarine to discover the Great Barrier Reef
From May 27 to June 18, 2019, privileged users of the Uber application will have the opportunity to discover the scUber. This professionally operated submarine will take the lucky ones - and especially those who can afford it - to discover the treasures of the Great Barrier Reef. No more need for fins or bottles to immerse yourself in the middle of the corals.
This experiment - which costs 3?000 Australian dollars (1?860 ?) - is the result of a study conducted by the tourist office. Visitors completed a survey on the experiences they would like to have in Queensland. Submarine exploration of the Great Barrier Reef is at the top of the list.
Support for associations
Through this experience, the American company seeks to restore its image by advertising. Thus, the funds obtained with the scUber reservations will be donated to the Citizens of the Great Barrier Reef, an association committed to the protection and conservation of the world's largest coral reef system.
An all-inclusive day
scUber will be available in the Uber application until mid-June in northeastern Australia. Starting May 27, departures will take place from Heron Island, off Gladstone, in the southern region of the Great Barrier Reef. Then, the submarine will settle in Agincourt Reef, off Port Douglas, in Cairns.
This rate of 3?000 dollars includes one shipment for two people. Uber will pick you up at your location to take you on a helicopter to Heron Island. You will enjoy an hour on a submarine - able to descend to a depth of 150 m and powered by an electric motor - before returning to the surface. You will enjoy the rest of the day exploring the seabed, but this time in palm, mask and snorkel, before heading back to the mainland by helicopter. For the second session - organized from Port Douglas - you will land at Quicksilver Cruises.
A competition to win experience
Uber offers a winner the chance to experience this experience for two for free by entering a contest. You will need to explain in 25 words why you want to discover the Coral Reef. France is among the participating countries, which are the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, New Zealand and Australia.
